ILCA Training

ILCA / Laser Performance Training

Sail Faster, Race Smarter

For 2027, we're offering two specialist courses designed to help you improve your boat handling, boat speed and racing performance under the guidance of our experienced ILCA coaches.

Whether you're looking to sharpen your racing skills, improve your technique or gain greater confidence when competing, our courses combine focused coaching, practical exercises and competitive racing in a friendly and supportive environment.

Course Elements

Throughout each course, your coach will combine shore-based theory sessions with practical on-the-water training, helping you develop your technique and understanding of:

  • Upwind sailing – boat speed, pointing, balance and trim.
  • Downwind sailing – sailing angles, boat handling and wave technique.
  • Sail settings – rig tuning, sail controls and adjustments for different conditions.
  • Mark roundings – approach, positioning and efficient manoeuvres.
  • Starting techniques – timing, positioning and acceleration.
  • Race strategy and tactics – making better decisions around the course.
  • Tacks and gybes – improving speed, consistency and efficiency through manoeuvres.

Coaching will be tailored to the experience and ability of the group, with an emphasis on developing practical skills that can be transferred directly to club and open-meeting racing.

You'll have the use of one of our Laser Performance XD-equipped boats, prepared for your course.

Our boats are fitted with:

  • Padded toe strap
  • Aluminium Gorilla tiller
  • Aluminium tiller extension
  • Aluminium mast sections

Our team will help you set up your boat to suit your sailing style, ensuring you're comfortable and ready to make the most of your coaching sessions.

Course Programme

Arrival Day – Boat Selection & Setup

Arrive in Menorca, settle into your accommodation and head down to our sailing centre.

You'll have the opportunity to select your boat for the course and, with assistance from our team, adjust the setup to suit your preferences. Subject to arrival time and conditions, you'll also have the opportunity to get out on the water before formal coaching begins.

Coaching Days

10:00 Meet on the beach for weather forecast and morning briefing
10:05–12:30 Theory session followed by practical on-the-water coaching and exercises
12:30–14:15 Lunch break
14:15–16:15 Afternoon race briefing, three short races and initial feedback
16:30–18:00 Further on-the-water coaching and technique development

The programme may be adjusted to suit weather conditions and the specific training needs of the group.

Off the Water

Informal Evenings

We'll organise opportunities for the group to enjoy evening meals with their coach at local restaurants. These informal evenings are a great chance to discuss the day's sailing, exchange ideas and get to know your fellow sailors. Meals are paid for individually.

GPS Review

Both our 3-day and 5-day courses include at least one GPS race analysis session.

Your coach will use a playback of the afternoon's racing to analyse starts, boat positioning, tactical decisions and key moments around the racecourse, providing valuable feedback to help you improve your racing performance.
